How To Pick Your Perfect Skincare Routine in 3 Steps

We’ve all heard that taking care of our skin is important to fight everything from wrinkles to acne, but getting started can be a bit daunting. We’re here to offer you 3 ways to pick your perfect skincare routine.

So How Do I Even Get Started?

We’ve prepared a 3-step rundown of how you can get started on your skincare journey and how to find the right natural skincare routine.

How To Build A Natural Skincare Routine?

Step 1: Identify Your Skin Type:

Sometimes the trickiest part of choosing your ideal skincare routine is actually identifying your personal skin type. We’ve all heard of people who have thought (sometimes for years) that their skin type was one thing, only to find out later it was something quite different. Fight the faux pas and red herrings by using these identifying-characteristics:

  • Is your skin prone to tightness and dryness? If so, in which areas?
  • Can you visibly see your skin producing sebum? Does this lead to larger or blocked pores? Do you need setting powder to hold your makeup in place?
  • Does your skin seem relatively uniform in all areas of your face?

Dry Skin:

If your skin is dry/tight/creases easily/you experience itchiness. Dry skin often crosses over into the ‘sensitive’ area, as dryness can cause sensitivity.

Oily Skin:

If you can feel a physical oiliness to your skin, or find yourself reaching for blotting paper throughout the day, it is possible that you have oily skin. It is, however, normal to experience some oiliness, especially in hot weather, so be careful to not mis-identify ‘normal’ skin.

Normal Skin:

Of course all skin is normal, but ‘normal’ skin in skincare terms is often defined as not exhibiting any particular skin needs.

Acne-Prone and Acne-Scarred Skin:

Acne-scarred can display both pigmentation and inflammation after a spot/blemish has gone, which often indicates that the collagen in your skin has been attacked by the breakout. There are ways to address this through your skincare routine.

Mature Skin:

From the age of around 21 upwards, our skin stop producing as much collagen which may lead to a reduction in skin plumpness and elasticity, leading to our skin creasing and wrinkling more easily.

Teen Skin:

In your teens your body is experiencing surges in hormones that can affect your skin and sebum production. Establishing a good skincare routine can help to soothe these issues.

Step 2: Identify Your Skin Sensitivity

Sensitivity to different products can vary considerably from person-to-person, but it is arguably never a good idea to use products that contain:

  1. sulfates,
  2. parabens; and
  3. artificial ingredients.

At Way of Will we ensure that our products are free from these ingredients. It is worth noting that skin sensitivity can sometimes be in combination with one of the above skincare needs, so take into account both to create the best skincare routine.

As a general rule, skincare products that are more natural tend to be less irritating.

Step 3: Identify Your Brand Ethos

The sheer amount of skincare brands out there can be a little overwhelming in knowing exactly where to start and which to buy first. In order to sort the wheat from the chaff, try to identify what other types of brands you tend to like to invest in (are they luxury brands? Are the grassroots brands with great ethics? Are they cruelty-free and pro-environment?).

Buying from a brand that you love and are happy supporting is always a great feeling, especially when their products marry well with you and your skincare needs.

Natural Skincare Routine For Youthful Skin and To Prevent Aging

From as young as our early twenties we can start to notice signs of aging; perhaps lines that weren’t there before or a dryness/dullness that never seemed to be an issue. Fear not: we’re here to tell you 5 tips and tricks of hour to preserve youthful skin and prevent aging for fresh, plump skin.

How To Add Youth To Your Skin in 5 Different Ways

Great skin isn’t achieved by skincare products alone, choosing a great skincare routine is part of a wider system of skincare that ranges from exercise to daily habits.

1. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

As you start to get older, your skin’s collagen and elastin naturally deplete, which can contribute to these 7 signs of ageing:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin dullness
  • Patchiness/rougher skin
  • Dry skin
  • Age spots
  • Sagging skin
  • Larger pores

In order to combat these signs of aging it is imperative that you add moisture back into your skin in order to slow down the progression of these 7 signs of ageing.

We recommend following this 3-step Natural skin routine in order to keep the wrinkles at bay:

Step 1: Cleanse

Use our cleanser in order to remove any impurities and pollution whilst still protecting your skin’s natural barrier. Buy it here.

Step 2: Serum/Face Oil

Use 2 drops of our geranium and camellia nut facial oil to intensely nourish your skin and 2 drops of our Anti-Aging Serum to replenish your skin. We recommend avoiding the delicate eye area. Buy them here and here.

Step 3: Moisturize

Add moisture around your eyes with our moisturizr packed with essential oils. Buy it here.

2. Kick the Habit

Bad habits and lifestyle can have a remarkable affect on our skin: from stress to smoking to not getting enough sleep, it tends to show.

3. Fight Stress and Fatigue with Aromas

Aromatherapy essential oil has been scientifically proven to help elevate our mood and destress, depending on the scent that we choose.

Try these tips to boost your skin, from the inside out:

1. Sleep Better

Getting a good night’s sleep can help you to more youthful and boost your glow. If you skip on sleep you could look tired and ashen-faced. Help yourself to unwind and get a great night’s sleep with our sleep remedy, available for purchase here.

2. De-Stress

Stress not only kills but can contribute to skin ageing as well as break-outs. Destress with a bit of serotonin-boosting self-care by trying one of our face masks, available for purchase here.

We have a whole range of products dedicated to helping you relax and get better quality sleep. You can shop this range by clicking here.

4. SPF Protection

One of the lead causes of aging is sun damage, or what dermatologists refer to as photoaging. The lighter your skin tone, the more prone you are to sun damage, but that isn’t to say that those with deeper skin pigment should skip on applying their SPF; the sun is damaging to all skin types and colors, so don’t skip on investing in a quality SPF.

Get Moving

Exercise not only prevents skin from aging, but it actually reverses it. Additional myokines were found in the skin of those who had recently exercised – so there really is no excuse to dodge the workout. Keep yourself smelling great with our natural deodorant (free from nasties) available for purchase here.

5. Feed Your Skin

Eat your way to fabulous skin with Vitamin C and anti-oxidant packed fruit and veg. Eating well can also help to reduce acne scarring and dark circles under your eyes.

Takeaway:

Beauty truly is more than skin-deep.

Morning to Night Natural Skincare Routine for Oily Skin To Slay All Day

Looking for the best skincare routine for oily skin? If you find your skin producing excess oil throughout the day and you’re looking for a way to keep it in check then keep reading. At Way of Will we believe that all skin types are beautiful and that we should work with our skin to feel at our best, not against it.

How Can I Stop My Face From Getting Oily Throughout the Day?

Here is our AM to PM skincare routine for oily skin.

Oily Skincare Overview

Whilst people with oily skin may certainly have less issues with moisture-loss, it is still important to moisturize your skin. You should use the same basic components of skincare as someone who has combo/normal skin to dry skin, but with a view to simply use lighter versions of those products.

Morning Routine for Oily Skin

In the morning you should start your day with this 4-step routine:

1. Cleansing

Start with our sweet orange and grapefruit cleanser to lift impurities and stimulate your senses to get your mind and skin geared for the day. This cleanser also has Rose Geranium Oil and Roman Chamomile Oil to balance and soothe. Buy it here.

2. Toning

Next, use our toner to lift excess oil without drying, leaving balanced, refreshed skin, with inflammation reduced. Buy it here.

3. Moisturizing

Our moisturizer contains sebum-balancing Ylang-Ylang Oil to ensure that your complexion remains balanced throughout the day. Buy it here.

4. SPF

Apply an oil-free, water-based SPF o your skin, paying particular attention to your forehead, nose bridge and tops of your cheekbones (which generally receive the most sun exposure).

Midday Routine for Oily Skin

To keep refreshed and oil-free throughout the day, buy some facial tissues to carry with you in your bag or to keep at the office.

Step 1: Gently blot your face with the facial tissues to mattify your skin (never rub or scrub your face with the tissue).

Step 2: Focus your mind and refresh your skin with our facial spray, available here.

Night Routine for Oily Skin

The wind-down routine to cleanse your skin and nourish it with what it requires.

1. Cleanser

Get cleansing to wash away the day’s pollutants and any build-up with the same cleanser as you used in the AM.

2. Clay Mask (Once A Week)

Once a week, give yourself a little me-time and your skin will certainly thank you. Our clay mask is a powerful deep-skin cleanser and exfoliator combined that’ll leave you with enviable results and a tingling-clean sensation that you can physically feel. Buy it here and the accompanying carrier oil here.

3. Facial Oil

A common misnomer is that you should stay away from things like facial oils if your skin type is oily, but this is not the case; depriving your skin of the moisture that it needs could actually make your sebum-producing glands over-compensate, leading to skin that is oilier than before.

Combat this by applying our specially-formulated, lightweight facial oil with added tea tree oil to fight bacteria and skin irritation.

Buy it here.

4. Serum

Finally, before lights-out, it’s time to apply our face serum that is specially formulated for oily skin, to help clarify, nourish and detoxify skin.

Buy it here.

Takeaway:

Adding moisture to your skin is vital, no matter what your skin type.

Chapter 6

Benefits of a Natural Skincare Routine

The trends within the beauty industry have been consistently moving towards a more natural skincare routine for years now, with more and more brands advertising the percentage of natural ingredients contained within their formulas. So, what are the benefits of a natural skincare routine?

The benefits of a natural skincare routine have a wide-reaching impact on both you and your health as well as a wider global impact on the environment. The trouble arises, however, when brands that are generally not geared towards commitment to natural products or the environment start to label their product as ‘natural’ even when they are not.

Why Way of Will?

At Way of Will we are committed to authentically natural ingredients that make up our plant-based products. Our products are free from parabens, don’t contain a drop of artificial coloring, are free from harmful aluminium zirconium and aluminium chlorohydrate, contain no sodium laureth sulfate and are free from synthetic oils as well as being cruelty-free.

When you take a look at the label of our products, you can clearly see what is contained within it: we’re fully committed to giving your face and body the respect, pampering and nourishment that it deserves, with gimmick-free, 100% authentically natural products.

Let’s Take a look At 5 powerful benefits of a natural skincare routine

 1. Happier Skin

Natural products aren’t full of synthetic ingredients and powerful chemicals that can have long-term effects on the health and happiness of your skin. Petrochemicals and other synthetic agents used within a lot of skincare can actually degrade your skin and have an overall negative impact on it over the course of years.

We challenge you to pick up one of your traditional skincare products now and compare it to our ingredient list. The two will be so vastly different that it’s hard to compare them as even being the same type of product.

Natural products are free from irritants and will overall give your skin less problems to contend with over time.

2. Wellbeing Impact

Whilst traditional skincare manufacturers cite the ingredients within their products as being safe to use, we’ve all either had friends or family (or ourselves) that have had a bad reaction to skincare that is not natural.

Whether it’s tightness and dryness of the skin, through to skin been overly-stripped from its natural oils by harsh sodium laureth sulfate-loaded products, to itchy, irritated and red skin from harsh perfumes and chemicals, our skin tells the story of what is going onto and into our body.

As a result of this, there is increasing scepticism and mistrust around just how ‘safe’ these products are for our bodies and overall wellbeing, as many ingredients have little independent research conducted.

Skin that feels stripped and mistreated doesn’t feel good, and toxins and chemicals that build up on our skin over time and can have an impact on our overall skin chemistry and pheromone levels.

3. Body Impact

Natural skincare has stood the test of time, with similar healing, restorative ingredients being put onto our skin for centuries. Our skin is our largest body organ and is highly absorbent.

More concerning still, there is little research conducted into the long-term effects that (relatively) new skincare ingredients have on the body over time. Further to this, there is little known about the importance of biodiversity on the surface of our skin.

Recently, there has been a boom in research into our skin’s microbiome and just how important it is for our overall health and wellbeing. Scientists have said that one of the biggest threats to a healthy microbiome is modern hygiene and skincare practices.

For this reason, we recommend that if you wouldn’t eat, then don’t put it on your skin! Flower and plant extracts will forever be reliable and natural forms of skincare.

4. Environmental Impact

Chemicals contained within skincare products that aren’t natural can have harmful effects on the environment. They can give off gases that when released into the air, can have harmful effects.

Choosing a more natural skincare routine will give peace of mind that you are choosing products that work in harmony with nature – not against it.

5. Highly Effective Skincare

Natural skincare that uses pure oils and extracts from natural sources, like those used in Way of Will products, will naturally have a faster, more effective impact.

Our products contain natural ingredients that, by their nature, contain high levels of skin-loving vitamins like vitamin C and vitamin E, as well as naturally being packed with antioxidants. All of our skincare products at Way of Will have been formulated to have maximum complexion-boosting impact on our skin.

Conversely, skincare products that are not natural can actually contain ingredients that are potentially carcinogenic and harmful to the skin.

Takeaway

If you’ve been struggling to find reliable skincare that consistently works for you, look no further than natural skincare. Your skin will thank you, and, over time your wallet will thank you, too, as less products (that didn’t do what they said on the tin) will go to waste.

Chapter 7

Normal Skincare Routine vs Natural Skincare Routine

Ever wondered what sets apart a natural skincare routine from a normal skincare routine? Our natural skincare routine is here to show you why natural products are super effective and have everything that you need to pimp your skincare routine and make it ultra-effective.

With so much skincare now labelled as ‘natural’ and little-to-no government standardization about what this word means, it’s important to always read the label to help decide for yourself which products can truly call themselves natural, and which can’t.

In this blog we’ll take you through a natural skincare routine with Way of Will products to help you decipher which is the winner between a natural skincare routine vs a normal skincare routine.

Here is our natural skincare routine head-to-head with a normal 2-step skincare routine.

 1. Cleanser

Up in the cleanser ring we have our face cleanser containing sweet orange, grapefruit, rose geranium and roman chamomile.

The chamomile oil actually works to relieve skin irritations whilst also being naturally anti-inflammatory, to help with drainage and reduce any redness or generally unhappy and irritated skin.

Geranium oil will actually boost your body’s natural cell regeneration. Grapefruit oil will give your brain and skin a zing, helping you to wake up feeling fresh, as well as having antioxidant properties.

Rather than breaking it down, sweet orange oil will actually strengthen your epidermis – hooray!

On the opposing side we have popular skincare brand Cetaphil’s ‘Gentle’ Cleanser.

Here is the ingredient list:

AQUA/WATER, CETYL ALCOHOL, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, BUTYPARABEN, METHYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN, SODIUM LAURYL, SULFATE, STEARYL ALCOHOL FIL 0214.V00

As you can see, it’s packed with parabens and oil-stripping, harsh sodium laureth sulfate (SLS). SLS is also a key ingredient in dishwasher soaps, surface cleansers and laundry detergent – need we say more?

2. Moisturizer

Next on the list, we have our moisturizer vs Neutrogena’s moisturizer.

Our ingredient list contains frankincense oil, ylang-ylang oil, lavender oil and bergamot oil.

Lavender oil contains natural antifungal and antibacterial properties that won’t be harmful to the skin, whilst ylang-ylang oil helps to regulate skin oil production for all types of sin.

Bergamot oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and frankincense oil naturally lifts emotional negativity whilst fighting aging and relieving skin of congestion. You won’t find any silicones or parabens in our products.

Here is the ingredient list of Neutrogena’s moisturizer:

Aqua, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Cetyl Alcohol, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Stearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, C12-15 Alkyl Lactate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita Extract, Cetyl Lactate, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Salicylic Acid, Menthyl Lactate, Dimethicone, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Sodium Isostearoyl Lactylate, Propylene Glycol Isostearate, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Carbomer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol, Benzalkonium Chloride, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Ethylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum, Benzyl Alcohol [PR-015105]

As you can see, it is full of parabens and contains silicone (dimethicone), which is a cheap way of filling your pores to make your skin appear moisturized (when it actually isn’t). A further issue with dimethicone is that it can actually block moisture from entering your skin, creating further skin problems down the line. Yikes!

We’ll let you decide who won the battle…

Make sure you check out our article about what the benefits of a natural skincare routine are. See you back here soon!

Best Skincare Routine for Men

A lot of men let many years go by without really thinking about their skin and then BAM, we start to notice things that we don’t really like cropping up on the surface of our skin; be it blackheads, pimples or lines that weren’t there before, any of these might have prompted you to type ‘best skincare routine for men’ into the Googler to see what came up.

Well, you’re not alone. More and more men are getting skin-conscious, and therefore skincare conscious, and are wanting to keep it tight and handsome for longer. Another thing is that in a world that loves to pile stress on us, it just feels good to take a minute to take care of yourself.

But where to begin? We’re not born with innate knowledge of the difference between a skin serum and skin cream – don’t worry my dude, we’ve got you. We’ve compiled an easy routine that will leave you feeling better about yourself, without there being too much to digest.

Remember: if at any point it seems like a step too far – roll with that. It’s much better to establish a super simple skincare routine, and to work your way up the skin-pimping ladder, than it is to release the anchor on a 10-step snail-secretion skincare routine from Korea when you’re a skincare newb.

At Way of Will, we took the plucky step to make all of our skincare products using natural ingredients – whilst often not the cheapest option, it certainly is a great option for your skin, especially men’s skin that may react to chemicals that it isn’t used to.

Choosing natural skincare also has a positive impact on your overall wellbeing and your body. Further to that, it has less of a negative impact on the environment and is cruelty-free (no bunnies were harmed in the making of our products).

Without further ado, let’s get to it.

As with all habits and routines that we do on a daily basis, whilst the absence of them for one day may not affect us, if we frequently neglect them, we are likely to see negative results.

A good skincare routine helps your skin to look more youthful, nourished and blemish-free. The best approach to skincare is always prevention not correction; it’s much easier to have great skin if you strive to get into the right habits from the start, rather than trying to fix things down the line.

With a car its always easier to see to a problem and get it resolved before it becomes a major issue – the same is true for our bodies and skin.

What Is a Simple Skincare Routine?

The core tenets to a simple, yet effective, skincare routine are: Cleanse, Exfoliate, Treat, Moisturize. If you’re looking to keep it at a two-step routine, then it’s best to pick cleansing and moisturizing – you can always add more steps as you become more comfortable with your routine.

1.A: Cleanse:

Everything from pollution to irritants to good old-fashioned dirt, oil and grime can build up on your skin throughout the day. Bid adieu by cleansing.

1B) Exfoliate:

Slough off those dead skin cells and any dryness by exfoliating.

2B) Treat:

Apply serum in order to give your skin the required nourishment that it needs.

2A) Moisturize:

Adding moisture back into your skin is one of the best ways to prevent premature aging.

When to Start a Skincare Routine?

No matter which age we are, our skin always has the same basic needs: to be cleansed, to be moisturized and to be protected from sun damage.

This also applies to your skin type, as no matter what our skin type is, we will need to employ these basics in order to look after our skin, at any age.

Going for natural products is a great way to approach skincare in our younger years, when our skin tends to be more sensitive and in need of a gentle formulation.

As you get older, you can change and adapt your routine according to what your skin needs are.

What Age Should You Start Using Face Wash?

As long as the formula of your chosen face wash/cleanser is gentle on the skin, you can start using it at any age.

Our natural cleanser is formulated to combine highly effective, all-natural ingredients in a pH-balanced, purifying formula.

It is mild, low-foaming and will ensure that your skin is cleansed, not stripped, after use.

When using face wash, ensure that you avoid your eye area completely, as the skin around your eyes only needs to be cleansed with clean, fresh-running warm water.

What Is the Correct Order of Using Skincare Products?

By ensuring that you approach your skincare routine in the right order, you will help to maximise the results that you see from each product.

Step 1: Cleanse

By cleansing your skin, you are removing any surface dirt, oil and pollutants that could lead to break-outs and other skin-woes, whilst also creating a clean and clear canvas for products to sink into your skin.

Step 2: Exfoliate and/or Mask

Once your skin is clean, you can go deeper with an exfoliant or a mask to go the extra mile in clearing your pores.

Step 3: Toner

Now that your skin is super clean, it’s time to close your pores back up and create a sealed, fresh surface for your products.

Step 4: Facial Spray

Facial sprays can be a great way to quickly, easily and hygienically apply hydration to your skin in addition to mood-boosting fragrance.

Step 5: Treat

Now that your skin is clean and hydrated, add your serum(s) and let them sink in for a couple of minutes before your final step.

Step 6: Moisturize

Seal in your serums and plump your skin with our nourishing moisturizer.
