5 Ways To Practice Self-Care on a Budget

When we hear the word self-care, we think of spa days without end and the white fuzzy bathrobes that go with it. We think of hot oil massages, soothing facials and that incredibly indulgent mani/pedi combo we probably don’t need. And while we’re the first to enjoy the occasional back rub or pore cleansing facial, we also know that self-care is more than the inside a beauty salon.

All those soothing and oh so simple self-care activities are possible on your terms, by your rules and in the comfort of your own home. Got curious? Then read on to find out how we like to do all things self-care, the WoW way.

Sit back, relax and take a bath

If you’re lucky enough to have a bath, you might as well unlock its full potential. Picture this. It’s 8 pm, you’ve just had dinner and your exhaustion level is at it a Mount Everest worthy peak. You start watching a crappy reality show when you suddenly remember that new book you’ve picked up. And that bath salt you’ve been meaning to try. It feels like the stars are aligning for this ultimate moment of relaxation. A bath.

One of the easiest yet most satisfying self-care tips has to be an old fashioned soaking session. Facemasks, hair masks, a glass of wine, that book. Anything is possible, really. To really amp it up a notch, light a few candles to set a mindful mood and enjoy some relaxing tunes or your favourite podcast (more on that later). If you happen to be looking for a bath salt that is the equivalent of a warming embrace, look no further than our Muscle Soak. Stimulating, warming and incredibly soothing. It’ll change your bathing as you know it for good.

Treat yourself to a DIY massage

Giving yourself a massage might not seem like an obvious choice but it’s a pretty good one. If your schedule or budget don’t really have wiggle room for a professional, it’s time to turn the massage table (or oil) to yourself. This will feel like an absolute treat after a draining day or after your soon to be infamous bathing ritual (see previous step).

Just listen to your body and gently massage the day’s worth of knots out of your arms, legs and loosen up the tension in your chest and shoulders. We might not have a secret method, but we do have a secret formula. Our Soothe and Cool massage oil is the relaxing gift that keeps on giving. Soothing, cooling and moisturizing. It’s another perfect excuse for DIY self-care, not that you need any.

Meet your audio powered therapy alternative

A podcast has the potential to act like therapy without the hefty price tag. They are the online empowerment we can always appreciate it on a rainy day. Do whatever makes you happy – 100% guilt-free

Let’s be honest. The ultimate form of self-care is sometimes simply doing nothing. Switching your ‘always on’ brain off for a moment of well-deserved relaxation feels pretty damn good. Whatever activity (or lack thereof) normally fills you with guilt, do it. Once in a while, just cancel your plans or act on what you feel like doing at that moment.

You wanna binge-watch the latest Stranger Things season in one sitting? Do it. You wanna order pizza and have fries and ice cream on the side? Do it. You wanna sit in the park all day with a coffee and just watch as the world goes by? Do it. You wanna sleep until noon just to remember what it feels like to be 16 again? You guessed it, in the words of our dear friends at Nike, ‘Just Do It’.

Make your inner child proud

Do you remember the days of your childhood? When all you worried about was which toy would be hiding in your Happy Meal or how many presents Santa would put underneath the tree. But it’s not because you’re not a kid anymore that you can’t act like one. Whatever you loved to do as your younger self, there’s no reason not to enjoy those things again.

Whether that’s jumping on a trampoline, blowing bubbles with that pink gum or binge-watching your favourite Disney films, you do whatever makes you feel good. Forever young isn’t just a song, it’s a way of life.
